BARR CALLS FOR CARERS AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Latest News

State Member for the Electorate of Cessnock, Clayton Barr, MP, has encouraged members of the community to nominate someone they know for the 2014 NSW Carers Awards.

The NSW Carers Awards recognise and celebrate the significant contribution that unpaid or ‘informal’ carers make to the person or people they care for and their local community.  Community groups, government agencies or other organisations that provide exceptional support to carers can also be nominated.  Up to 60 individual carers and up to 20 organisations will be honoured with an award during Carers Week that is to be held 12-18 October 2014.

“More than one in 10 people in NSW are carers and the NSW Carers Awards are a great opportunity to recognise the work of some of the most dedicated people in our community.  Carers give up so much of themselves to look after another, and while they don’t seek recognition it is well deserved”, Mr Barr said.

“If you know of an individual or group who deserves one of these awards, I urge you to nominate them”, he continued.

Nominations are now open and close at 5pm on Monday 30 June 2014 and can be made at www.facs.nsw.gov.au/carersawards
