Barr Calls for Carers Awards Nominations

Latest News

State Member for the Electorate of Cessnock, Clayton Barr, MP, has encouraged members of the community to nominate someone they know for the 2015 New South Wales Carers Awards.

The Awards recognise unpaid carers who have made a major contribution to the community, as well as organisations which have supported carers. Up to 55 individual carers and organisations will be recognised throughout NSW. Highly Commended carers will be invited to a State ceremony during NSW Carers Week that runs from 11 to 17 October 2015, when the 2015 NSW Carer of the Year will be announced.

“The New South Wales Carers Awards are a great opportunity to recognise the work of some of the most dedicated people in our community. Carers give up so much of themselves to look after another, and while they don’t seek recognition they all deserve it,” Mr Barr said.

“If you know of a person or group who deserves one of these awards, I urge you to nominate them.”

Nominations are now open and will close on 29 June 2015 and can be made at https://facs.smartygrants.com.au/

More than one in 10 people in NSW are carers. Carers can be anyone including parents, partners, brothers, sisters, friends, sons or daughters. They provide unpaid support to those who need it because of a disability, mental illness, chronic health condition, dementia or ageing.
