Have your say – Intersection upgrade at Maitland Road and Duffie Drive, Cessnock

Latest News

The NSW Government has provided $500,000 funding for planning this proposed intersection upgrade to improve safety for road users.

Roads and Maritime Services is seeking your feedback on a proposed safety upgrade at the Maitland Road and Duffie Drive intersection at Cessnock which involves installation of a roundabout to improve safety and traffic flow for road users.

In the five years between January 2011 and December 2015 there were 16 crashes within 50 metres of the Maitland Road and Duffie Drive intersection, including 12 injury crashes. The majority of crashes involved vehicles turning right out of Duffie Drive towards Neath.

We have included a map to help better explain the proposal. The work will include:

  • Installing a single lane roundabout
  • Widening the road to retain separate left turn and through lanes on Maitland Road for motorists travelling west
  • Improving street lighting at the intersection
  • Relocating utilities to accommodate the new intersection.

The proposed upgrade will not impact existing vegetation north of Maitland Road with all road widening activities to be carried out on the southern side of the intersection.
